R&D – Industrial Surveillance and Safety Assistant Project.

It was 2020 when, in collaboration with 6 other partner companies, we took up the challenge and invested in the ASSI Project, financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of Regione Toscana (POR FESR 2014-2020).

The ASSI Project stems directly from specific needs for new product development that have been reported by industrial realities operating within the Tuscan production system in strategic sectors such as steel, logistics, ports and security monitoring.

From this regional need, which involved us given our relevance to strategic sectors and presence at the JSW steel plant in Piombino, we started to develop the solution in synergy with:

  • R.J.C. SOFT S.R.L.
  • VALUE INNOVATION COMPETITIVENESS SUSTAINABILITY CONSULTING S.R.L.
  • BLUEOAK S.R.L.
  • Scuola Superiore di Studi Universitari e Perfezionamento Sant’Anna Istituto TeCIP
  • BTR s.r.l.

Within the ASSI project proposal, the activities involving the partners La Cisa and BTR and are related mainly to the identification of operational scenarios of application of the ASSI platform in the Steel and Port Logistics sectors that later have a prospect of industrial valorization.

In order to focus its activities on the experimentation of the project platform with a view to completing its product portfolio and to propose a continuity of development in an innovative sense towards its customers, LA CISA and BTR have identified two operational scenarios, which have been defined in the field and which will represent two of the main experimental scenarios of the security monitoring technology platform, an output of the ASSI project.

From the technological point of view, ASSI proposes the creation of an image acquisition and processing framework for monitoring, real-time analysis, capture and processing of video streams in working and/or industrial areas.

It will be equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) system with the purpose of detecting objects, people, and vehicles, and analyzing their actions, individual and relative trajectories, and possible gestures potentially indicating sensitive individual and plant safety conditions.

In addition, the purpose is to design a flexible and distributed system capable of adapting to different topologies of environment, sensor characteristics, and scenarios to be analyzed, with the main objective of demonstrating in the time window of project development a proper application to areas of industrial logistics, port, and surveillance of areas in co-presence of vehicles and people even outside the Region of experimentation.

The main objectives are:

  • Tracking of vehicles and semi-finished goods
  • Integration with warehouse management
  • Detection of dangerous maneuvers
  • Vehicle traffic management
  • Collision risk monitoring
  • Target tracking
  • Surveillance of prohibited areas
  • Analysis of interference risks.

The Conclusion of the trial period of the project is scheduled for the end of this year, find out the work progress here.
